THE IMPORTANCE OF KINDNESS
I was recently named as an Ambassador for an extraordinary South Australian charity, MumKIND. I am both immensely touched and excited to begin helping them in any way I can because their core reason for being is something that is extremely close to my heart; women supporting women.
I have two sisters and a close circle of girlfriends that I treasure so dearly, without whom I wouldn’t be where I am today. The thought of doing life without them is unfathomable. Yet many women in South Australia don’t have this luxury/benefit/support network to lean and depend on in good and importantly, tough times.
This is where the seed for MumKIND was first planted. Through the simple yet profoundly impactful gesture of kindness.
This incredible group of women led by Kate Earl and Sophie Doyle seeks to show kindness to women who are facing a variety of challenges by partnering with social services agencies across the state, adding in an extra layer of kindness and care to their already marvelous work.
Throughout the year MumKIND collects a range of material items and hosts a series of charity events with the aim of bringing women together to support other women. Their work is inspired and genuine, offering items of assistance to women who have for example, escaped a domestic violence situation with nothing more than the clothes they are wearing. Across key holidays like Christmas, Easter and Mother’s Day, MumKIND rallies the generosity of their network to offer material care packages that can include clothing, underwear, bedding and blankets, toys, books and beauty. The idea is simple and the outcome practical and immediate.
MumKIND events embody their philosophy “be the reason someone believes in the good of people”, again a simple yet powerful message that shows it really doesn’t take much to just be kind.
I’m thrilled to be helping MumKIND with their exciting calendar of upcoming campaigns and events and urge you to follow along @mum_kind
